Hello,

I have the following configuration:
  • MB: Supermicro X9DRi-F with C602 chipset (same as X9DR3-F with C606 chipset but only Port 0-3 SCU)
  • CPU: 1x E5-2690 V2
  • RAM: 128GB ( 8x 16GB DDR3)
  • Chassis: Chenbro RM23624 2U 24x2,5" sas/sata hotswap with 12GBit sas expander
  • System: ESXi 6.5 ...
  • Storage-Appliance: FreeNAS 11 vm (with PCI passthrough of one Lenovo N2215 (8 port 12GBit sas LSI SAS3008 adapter) )
Here comes the question:
I could successfully passthrough the "Intel C602 SCU Adapter" to a Windows 10 vm. There I could hotplug SAS and SATA drives and configure raid volumes with the Intel RSTe software.
=> Does the Intel C602/606 SCU SAS-HBA work with sas expanders? If so, i'd like to passthrough the C602 SCU to the FreeNAS vm and replace the additional LSI 3008 HBA. Performance (6GBit vs 12GBit) is no issue because of slow mechanical drives...

Thank you for your help.

Partly solved: The X9DRi does only support SATA drives on the SCU port. So I have to stay with the 9300-8i - no problem with that. But it would be interesting if the Intel C606 with SAS support does support SAS expanders!?

Best regards,
Martin
