but manuals say:
Only populate DIMMA2 and DIMMD2 if the extra memory support is needed
(some say these two extra slots are only to match 1TB Memory)

personaly i would buy 6x 16GB RDIMM and let A2/D2 empty.
OMG that makes it so much easier to shop and match!

I think I found a nice set of 6x 32GB ECC RDIMM DDR4-2666 which should do the trick

Thanks for the awesomeness!

I might put some sandpaper against them to bring the copper out and flatten the damn things as they are round and that's causing the thermal issues for sure.
or use some (good/not too much, not too less) thermal paste. AFAIK cascade lake is not soldered like skylake, the TIM may bad after long time of use. have you used water ? the QL2K 26 core can go 3200mhz all core still air cooled, but more requires water then.

might delid this chip first or go to Intel and ask for them to delid it for me (I live next to the Intel Campuses in Oregon and have friends there who could help)
check the core temps for songle major differendes in temp. i.e. a bad P-8124 had temps from 59 to 88 degree same run.

Which coolers would you recommend? Just in case somebody happens to stumble upon more of these in the future?
take a look into HWinfo package power at CBR23 run. then choose a cooler which can do this continious.
IMHO 1U can not.

Hey @Randomer Naught I forgot to ask you, did you ended up seating the 8275cl in those EPC621D8A boards?

Oh yea, and please throw those temps in an chart or dump the raw info into a quote line, very curious to see how much of a temp improvement you got.

Later this year I want to try watercooling one or two of those 8275cl beasts with two 560 rads, if it works I want to try to get protocase to build a dedicated cooling chassis for the rads and pumps (though I have to figure out what where to put my UPS then).

@RolloZ170 Is it possible to change the TDC for dell servers (eg r740) to support OEM processors? Did you had any change on these motherboards?

made this on a Dell 7820
Dell 7820 8175M sth.jpg
Dell uses PXE1610C (Primarion, overtaken from Infineon)
PXE1610C uses a proprietäry method to store the register to NVM(OTP2), so needed a primarion USB dongle and PowerCode software(with activation key) to change the ICC_MAX.
Dell_R740miss sth.jpgthe R740 motherboard mostly missing the 6th phase(or more) the 7820 has 6+1 phase installed.
