I am very interested running 8124M( SRD1Y H0 ) on 7820
If I summarize your post, here is the requirements
1. Primarion USB dongle
2. PowerCode Software (With activation)
there are only 3 holes on the PCB, need to solder a 3pin header to connect the dongle.
On the other hand, how about BIOS? does 7820 BIOS has microcode for 8124M?
SKL H0: its not a special CPU, only TDC/TDP is over standard levels.
Now, I just need to buy dongle but out of stock haha.
for weeks now. the distrubutors don't know yo need: tell you want one, don't just look and wait.

Thanks for the clearification.
I dont mind soldering 3pin header and it should be super easy haha.

Can you also share where that 3pin header is located at?

Thanks!

Not all people can hold a soldering iron on the right side...
VRM1 header.jpg
and i was lying about the 3 holes. the holes are filled with solder of course.

Thank you for great picture!
Also, I confirmed that I can run PowerCode.

Now I just need PX-DNGL-01 but its impossible to buy it now
I even searched internationally but no where to find
I guess I really have to make back order at digikey :'(

I am also looking to upgrade my R740 CPU with a 8124m or similar chip. Has any tried the 200w 8222CL Xeon or the 210w 8259CL in a R740? Those shouldn't have the same power consumption issue of the 8124m.

both 8222CL and 8259CL have TDC=255A (not work on R740)
cascade lake is allowed to get more continious power.

Good to know and I suppose since the board is missing the 6th phase that modifying the board using PowerCode would not be possible?

other board work with only 5+1. if the R740 have the same power stages than the T7820 i.e. it will be fine.
i don't know the exact settings at 5+1 phase conf. so its hard to say what we have to do. you can adjust the per phase OCP values.

So you think there is a chance the 8124m will work in a R740?

there are many different motherboard part numbers, most 5+1 (one phase choke missing)
we have seen a T7920 running two 8251C, but you have to have a specific mobo P/N (7920CL)
if your R740 has 6+1 phase installed there is a higher change it will work without VRM modd.

I am looking for some help here with X11DAi-N. I got it from a Chinese eBay seller who claims that VRM is modified. I think it is DOA as lower led (LE2) does not light up and BMC does not send any packet to the network even though LEDM1 is blinking. On PW_ON all fans start and nothing happens. The question I have for the X11 series is Power LED on the motherboard is always on or whether it turns on power-up. Does power LED require a properly installed and functional CPU? I am looking to run 8272CL on it and wondering can a problem be in an unsupported CPU.

OK, for all who have a supermicro X11SPM/X11SPL/X11DPi/X11DPH and want to run high Current OEM processors
The Thermal Design Current(TDC) of those processors is 255A, normal is 228A and lower.
You can see this TDC value with AIDA, HWinfo does not show this parameter anymore.

We need the ElmorLabs EVC2SX and the Software EVC2 1.0.1.10

I have made a device-xml for the EVC2 Software, MP2955A_PMBUS.xml

Connect the EVC2SX with the USB Cable to your PC and start the EVC2 Software.
Now you can power on the X11SPM, click on I2C1 and click "Find Devices" the MP2955A should be found and visible under I2C1.
Click on this entry to open the Device:

click "Monitoring" to see the value of ICC_MAX.
you can select the standard or max. ICC_MAX in the dropdown menu.

STORE_USER_ALL is to save the setting permanent.
View attachment 21441
With a click at "Apply changes" the new ICC_MAX is written and if you choosed "yes" for STORE_USER-ALL this setting is copied in the NVM of the VRM controller.

UPDATE:
i have successfully connected the MPS EVKT-USBI2C-02 Interface to X11SPM and the MP2955A VRM controller is recognized by the MPS Software V4.5.11, if you need the Software with MP2955A support, PM me.

UPDATE2:
i have successfully modified a X11DPi-N(T) rev. 2.01A to run TDC 255A TDP 240W SKUs(i.e. Amazon AWS customs)
With CPU in both sockets installed the procedure is similar than decribed above, you will see two MP2955A (adr 0x20 and 0x21)
Remove the JVRM1/2 jumpers and connect the I2C :
JVRM1 pin2 = SCL
JVRM2 pin2 = SDA
USB2/3 pin7/8 = GND (or any other GND pin)

UPDATE3:
we have successfully modified a X11SPL-F,X11DPL-i and X11DPH-i to run TDC 255A TDP 240W SKUs(i.e. Amazon AWS customs)
With CPU in both sockets installed the procedure is siliar than decribed above, you will see oneor two TPS53679 (adr 0x58/0x60)
X11SPL (may block TDP higher than 165W, ask me for modded BIOS 3.6)

Thinking of Buying one and Pairing it with an 8124m.

For anyone looking for the PX-DNGL-01 (For modding Infineon VRMs using PowerCode- this is the specific licensing dongle noted a couple of pages back... PXE1610C, to be exact), Digi-key is now showing it backordered, but shipping on 12/20. If you want one, might want to consider putting in an order ahead of time, as I suspect they won't last long. Digi-Key link
(For the last 6-8 weeks, it has shown on their site with a note that they have been trying to order more since 5/26/2022.)

I have had no luck trying to buy thru various sources in China (all have eventually replied to me that they do not have one available, or the one place willing to sell me one, wanted something like $600 to ship it to me.

It's a bit of a niche item, but if you need it, then you know what I am talking about.

Special thanks to @RolloZ170 for EVERYTHING related to this topic- everything I know, I've learned thanks to him! :)

**Note- This dongle only is for PowerCode/Infineon controllers- as far as I can tell, it is NOT useful for any other I2C brand/type of interface.**

update:
With EVC2SX/SE and EVC2 1.0.1.13 software(or EVC2Lib & batch):
i was already able to change the imax value of the E1610C
and today uploaded the registers to NVM, now the new imax i permanently saved to OTP.
the remaining attempts lowered from 10 to 9 (the OTP has 14? banks for programming, its not eeprom)
