I've run into a slight issue.
It's only detecting CPU1 not the other.
I have swapped memory over from CPU1 to cpu2 and still not picking it up.
Reset bios too, not updated it yet tho.
Both heatsinks feel warm to touch.

Any ideas?

This one sucks. Open the heatsink, check if cpu is there, see if power is plugged properly, check dented pins, etc.

I checked the CPU was there. But didn't remove it.
I thought I would take a chance and update all the firmwares through the efi.
Took ages to get past post, I thought it was knackered. But finally got into BIOS setup and it has the second CPU.
Phew. Finally can get on with the Linux install.

Sucks and there is not much you can do unfortunately. These are not designed for quiet specially being 1u

Paul, dont suppose you know what cable you need to use the spare power plugs on the motherboard to power a drive? If not i might have to make one up.

nope, I think that is only for the 2u systems which use the same motherboard and they have a 2x internal ssd kit above the psu or shroud

ive decided to remove the rms25cb080 controller and use the onboard sas connectors just to get jbod. When i removed the module the BMC reports a sensors reading error. I assume its moaning about the raid module. The fans are at 100%, how do i stop the BMC looking for that sensor? Is there a reset function i need to do?

You have to update the SDR information.

Can i put ssd's in the LSI RAID?
I have the Slot version of this Controller and SDDs Works fine.

updating the SDR did the trick, thanks michathe.
Yes you can boot from the controller but as it has no JBOD i had to Raid 0 it. Not handy if i wanted to pull it and read it on another system for what ever reason.
All was good until one of the sas connectors cant pick up any drives on the backplane. :s

running unraid at the mo, first time user. I liked the way they did the multiple disk pools of different sizes. Seems like a good fit for SMR drives? Still might head back to arch with Qemu tho, looking into LVM with parity disk if there is such a thing? Im just not sure if raid is a good idea on the shucked seagate expansion drives.
