on the avago sas2 mpt bios you should see size for the drives. I'd start by formatting them in the avago bios.

Or by wiping them using our sites trusty guide here. Could try 'dmesg | grep -i 520' and if those sas drives show up there w/ 520 block size (a common ent vendor config) reformat them to 512 using sg3utils. Then you should be GGG :-D Bet that's what's going on...hands down.

I owe you a drink. Gawd damn didn't even know that was a thing that could happen. dmesg happily barfed out unsupported sector size 520 for all 7 disks.
