I recently purchased a used ML350p G8 with 128GB of memory (8 x 16GB). Each stick is HPE SmartMemory, 1866MHZ PC3-14900, Dual Rank. According to all of the documentation I've read, the server should support running it at 1866MHz as long as only 1 or 2 DIMMs are installed per channel. According to the ilo4, the DIMMS are installed in the first slot of each channel. However, the memory summary in my ilo4 claims that the memory is running at 800MHz, which is the lowest supported speed and should only happen when all the slots are filled. Any suggestions? I would be happy to achieve 1600MHZ at this point, but I am at a loss as to why the server thinks it can't run the sticks at their full rated speed.

P1: DIMM slot 1,4,9,12
P2: DIMM slot 1,4,9,12

Thanks,
Tim

Solved! The power settings in the bios manipulate quite a few of the PCI-E and memory settings, including, apparently, max memory speed. I also discovered that choosing max power savings drops the PCI-E version to 1.0. Apparently I was a bit too aggressive in my attempts at saving power :)

Haha, honestly that’s a bit stupid though of HPE not to pop up a warning when selecting those settings
