I've got a Norco 4220 chassis that I want to turn into an expander chassis for my fileserver.

I tried doing the "always on mod" where you simply connect the green and black wires, but that only made the PSU fan go for a couple of seconds before it stopped so I guess that it doesn't work on my PSU.

Are there any cards I could buy to solve this problem?

All I need is power for the harddrives, fans and the Intel RES2SV240.

Do you have a picture of your current setup?

Not sure if you saw this: DIY SAS Expander there is another one linked which is iteration 2. May give you some ideas.

Thank you, didn't see the 2nd iteration, I think that is what I need.

Atm the chassis only has a PSU connected to the Intel RES2SV240 and the harddrives.

Supermicro also has a JBOD board, but I do not have one (or the part number handy) That may more be what you need.

Found a Supermicro item CSE-PTJBOD-CB2 that is what I need, the supplier could only say that it worked with Supermicro chassis/PSU, but I can't see why it shouldn't work with my setup so I ordered one and will report here if it works or not.

Ok, finally got it working with a mix of the CSE-PTJBOD-CB2 and Ace Outburst 550W PSU.
