Just be careful with clearances in such a small case.
Ya, i have 3U chassis to work with and would prefer a 'flat' heatsink if possible.

Quick question though.
Looking around a bit, seems to be there are 'narrow' CPU's for this model and 'square'.

How can i tell which one i have?
would hate to buy the wrong one.

Thanks!

EDIT: Found two potential items, but looking for more suggestions:

Looks like one is taller than the other.
Sound like, but hopefully i can replace with a quieter fan?

The 4U SuperMicro you linked to is dead silent, I have them in many rack mount and even in my desktop.
The 2U is whiny-loud even at idle, the Dynatron Copper version is much better and nearly silent, it's amazing for a 2U.

The 4U SM won't fit in a 3U chassis.
The 2U SM will, and the 2U dynatron will.

Dynatron R14 = 2U, Copper, and awesome.

Awesome. I will go with the Dynatron (which i did actually look at, but good to know it is solid)

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: That should fit my LGA2011-v3 right?
do you know if it has thermal paste pre-applied?
