FYI, the chip I ordered came extremely clean. Will be tossing it in a server on Monday hopefully.

Were the pads of the CPU you got extremely clean too? IOW, no cleaning needed?

I'm laggin' on getting mine installed, but anxious to test...especially since they're going in single socket servers.

Yes, very clean. There were small indents were the pins were pressed. But otherwise it was extremely clean. No finger prints or grease smudges.

I'm doing single socket on this as well.

Finally got a decent deal for two from Alex_Sari. I learned about the 10% ebay coupon from another post 3 days ago, saw Alex's listing for 5 extra at $149 a piece (probably from some of the returns??? hope not!). Offered and counter-offered and accepted at $140 piece, waited 2 extra days. Originally aiming at tomorrow's 10% coupon, but saw a new 10% coupon PICKUPSALE today and immediately paid. With about $11 shipping for 2, I ended up paying about $130 each which is not bad considering I missed the big sale in November.

Just an update, tossed the E5-2695 v2 into a blade server yesterday. After a little hassle with Cisco's firmware the chassis recognized it.

Nothing is running on the server right now, but it's booted up idling. I used some Arctic Silver paste that claims you need 2-3 days of usage before it settles in. I've checked the CPU temperature and it seems to be in line with other blades, 41C to 55C.

For anyone who is doing an upgrade on a Cisco UCS you need to log into the fabric interconnect and acknowledge the new CPU to the CIMC manager. It was a set of four simple commands that are well documented. I stupidly expected it to just work out of the box...

I tossed a bunch of ram I had laying around in, half was 1833 and a few 1066 sticks snuck in. I need to yank those when I get a chance.

We have two other blades with older processors, E5-2640's that if this works out, and the deal reappears I'd strongly consider upgrading those CPU's.

Mine two showed up today. I got from Alex_Sari.
The package is really good. Individually boxed in plastic shell. Form insulation. Then bubble wrap.
The pins are somewhat dirty. Hadn't got a chance to clean up with medical swab yet. I can see a minor scratch on several contact points. Hope it's not something serious.

CSS had been selling around 10x e5-2695v2 for $177 for one week. But it was sold out 2-3 hours ago.
