i bought a pair of E5-2680v2 for $164 each a few weeks ago. although i think used cpu prices have risen in the last week. best price for performance the E5-2690v2 is not currently - that is probably E5-2680v2 right now if you can get it still at prices similar to what i paid. if you're not already committed to IvyBridge-E platform, I still think Westmere-EP still takes the cake for price/performance in general (e.g., X5680@$60, L5640@$15) when not considering power consumption.

If you compare the 2690v2 with same a 2640v4 you will be surprised that for a lot of things the v2 will match or exceed the performance of the v4, those v2 have high clocks so they are power consimption aside (and that’s not too bad) a good option if you have ddr3 available

Took me about 2 months to get a seller to accept the BO :)

It wasn't the usual sellers that's for sure, be sure to do BO to ppl even if they only have a couple items too :)

I'd actually given up on that price for another few months then said one more try ha ha!!

if you want something faster than 2680 v2 for better price than 2690 v2, the best option right now is actually 2667 v2. It's only slightly slower in multithread but is faster in single thread than 2690 v2. Best of all the price is significantly cheaper at less than $250.

Having say that, do I think the xtra $80 premium over the 2680 v2 is worth it? not really...
