The way I look at it (full disclosure I own many guns and enjoy going shooting for recreation in the mountains and practice for use in home defense) is that guns are tools, tools like anything else need a user to make them useful. So as cliche as it sounds people use guns to kill people guns in and of themselves don't kill people.
