How much was the 2824 BTW? Are they closer to the 2724 pricing now?

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to pipe in and say my 2716 is the best piece of computing equipment I have ever owned. I've never once had to power cycle or reboot it for any reason I didn't create (moving, moving it to a new spot, etc). Its very quiet as well. I've honestly been tempted to buy another one just to have as a backup unit! lol

Anyone with a kill-a-watt or similar that can measure real world power consumption for a 2716? :p

Max is supposedly 21.7 Watts for the 2716 and 28 Watts for the 2724.

Edit: Trying to tone down power consumption and wondering if I should get a new switch or a used 2716.

I went with an HP procurve 1810 fanless awhile ago and I like it.

It barely gets warm, so I doubt it uses much power.

My HP 1810-24g has never rebooted, crashed or gone stupid on its own. Its fanless, runs silent and cool. Mine actually sits inside a small kitchen-style "upper" cabinet in my garage with nothing but three 2" cable ports for ventilation - the garage gets below freezing occasionally and over 100F during parts of the summer. Its a rather harsh place for computer equipment and its never even blinked.

I consider it highly recommended and believe its more recent brethren (the 1910-24g Patrick has) are similarly solid performers. I've never put a Kill-a-watt on it but the nameplate spec says 30W max. I doubt it runs max.

It will be for sale soon - got a new switch as a "Christmas present": Cisco SG500X-48. I'm also downsizing for power, turning down the Juniper EX 10Gbe switch and moving my four active 10Gbe circuits onto this new little monster. Nameplate for this is 60W max, which is about half what I had from the combined Juniper EX (90-100W measured) plus the 1810 (30W nameplate).

The 1910-24g is a 3com unit and it gets you some L3 functionality compared to the 1810 line. The 1810 line was updated with the 1810 v2.

The Cisco is a nice looking switch and less expensive than similar HPs.

I have a 2724 and it made a racket until I swapped the fan in it. It has also lost its mind a few times. I bought it second hand so who knows what kind of life it had before. When I get back later this week, I can put a Kill-a-watt on it.

It is the least expensive switch i can find on the market with 4x 10Gbe SFP+ ports and it has enough switching capacity to actually run them at full speed (though not quite enough to get non-blocking PPS with small packets). I got mine at a "special" price to it was an even better deal - long story.

It is quite unusual to find Cisco in the price leader spot. I do wish it had 6 10Gbe ports - even if they were oversubscribed.
