I'm really hoping that OmniOS (& Napp-it/Napp-it to go) will be my "cup of tea". So far everything looks good, a perfect solution for my soho/home NAS needs - but one thing that seems missing is the ability to use a DAAP server. FreeNAS has Firefly media server (based off of mt-daapd), and while I realize Firefly has been abandoned, it would at least allow me to stream music to my airport express, and maybe even my Apple TV2.
I've looked at what options are available for a daap server, and I am examining forked-daapd, which runs under linux and freeBSD.

Google led me to also stumble across Net-daapd-server-mythTV, a daapd server to publish mythTV videos, and it looks like it works under Solaris. I'm not sure if this is under active development, or if it will even work for streaming music.

What is the hold-up for why there isn't a daapd server for solaris? If one were going to try to go forward with porting over a daap server for Solaris, are there any suggestions, or leads on work already being done?

I have also stumbled across this blog
http://blog.lipautz.org/linux-and-apple-tv/
It mentions rubygems (active development) to serve music and video (via CLI) to apple TV (from linux).
https://rubygems.org/gems/airstream
I also ran across this thread from earlier this year (2013), discussing forked-daapd on raspberry pi, comments seem interesting regarding remote 3.0 support.
