Would I need a different HBA for the drives to show as actual drives versus as a virtual drive.

It currently has a CISCO 12GB SAS MODULAR RAID CONTORLLER but I'm thinking about getting this HBA obviously from ebay not them but this should work and it supports 24 drives but has 4 ports so I assume each port can handle 6 drives.

You might be able to change the RAID mode to HBA mode in the system bios (see page 18)

UCSC-MRAID12G and UCSC-SAS12GHBA are the same hardware. But at $15 shipped for the HBA I would not bother crossflashing.

So theoretically i could flash the UCSC-MRAID12G to be a UCSC-SAS12GHBA but it would just be easier to just buy the UCSC-SAS12GHBA?
