Usage Profile: Backup of desktop, Subsonic, local media storage. Currently ~1.5TB of music and 1TB of movies. 10GbE point to point to a windows desktop.

Edit: OS drives are in MDRAID1

@nitro no faith in old, well used maxtors :rolleyes:

I haven't backed it up which is just asking for trouble. It has no data on it but redoing everything does sound like a pain.
All irreplaceable data on the RAID5 is on at least two RAIDs so that is "backed up"

Not a matter of "no faith in old maxtors". All electronics fail. Electro-mechanical is even more likely.

Buy yourself a copy of Norton Ghost. Get a cheap external drive. Set up Ghost auto-imaging to run every night when you are asleep. When (not if) that raid-0 system drive fails you'll be back up and running in less than an hour.

I moved around some parts. Im still working on getting 10GbE to work the way I want it.
