I am considering picking up one of the AMD AM1 boards and CPUs for a small server at home. Was wondering if anyone has used them with Hyper-V yet? Also has anyone tried using anything other than video cards in the PCI-E 16x slot?

Thanks

My Sophos UTM router consists of the following:
  • AMD Sempron 3850 Kabini 1.3GHz Socket AM1 25W Quad $44.99
  • MSI AM1I AM1 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX AMD
  • INTEL i350-AM2

The Intel NIC works great in the 16x slot.

A LSI HBA works fine too (see my .sig). I'm still not happy with the stability of my 3850/AM1 rig. It's OK, but it's just not quite there. Hopefully another few BIOS updates on the AM1I-A will sort things out.

I actually JUST built a new AM1 box,I wanted a quiet box to test stuff with with powering up my bohemeth of a desktop (and swapping cards in and out)

my MSI AM1I is equipped with 2x4GB Gskill and a AMD 5350.

I'm yet to try hyper V as I primarily use VMWare...
I have loaded it with an intel quad ET card, and currently holds a LSI 8888ELP

only thing? its mechanically a 16x slot, only 4X to the cpu.
but also has a mpcie slot

At this point have decided that i am going to skip AM1 for this build and am going to go with either a Avoton 2550 or else a 35w Opteron 4100

Just fired up my AM1 system again. Running off an old Dell Optiplex 80Plus Silver PSU, and with an IBM M1015 in it, its idling at 28W. It's using 50% less power than the Intel H87/Pentium G3230 rig. All figures less hard-drives.
