I'm trying to fix up a couple of old Lenovo x3650 M5 servers for storage servers (primarily for video). The hardware RAID (ServeRAID M5210 with 4GB cache and BBU) seems to do a great job of obtaining high sequential read/write performance to a RAID5 with 5 drives, but I've obtained better random...
I'm trying to add a P1600X Optane NVME drive to an existing storage pool that is composed of 10 8tb SAS drives. My intention is to use this as cache for tiered storage, but I'm struggling with it. Is this even possible, or would I have to create the storage pool from scratch? This is a...
Hello
I ve being using in a production level some sas2 disks hitachi-wd Dell 2.5inch 10k 1.2Tb drives with zfs (no Zil or Slog extra devices) in a raid 10 level. In a random check to the drives I noticed that the feature of all the drives write cache was disabled. Used the command sdparm -g...
Hey,
curious about how to get distributed volumes to span several devices. Unfortunately haven't seen much literature about this.
I'm actually using Ubuntu instead of Oracle Linux, but the setup procedure appears virtually identical. Here's what I'm following, which seems to be the best...
Looking for a cache drive for unRaid that's over 1TB.
I have one available PCIe and would like to get something to use for a cache drive. Maybe something that would fit in a 2u chassis if possible...if not, I can swap things to my 3u instead for full-height cards.
So I have taken the plunge and am building a Linux lab server around a E2100 Xeon. I have six 8TB SATA drives that I plan to put into a ZFS RaidZ2 pool. I am considering adding some L2ARC and ZIL/SLOG cache to increase IOPS and I have a 240GB M2 SSD (Corsair MP510) for that. To complete the...
Seems the SMR drives have inflated cache to compensate for lower performance.
The SMR drives however have really appealing densities and form factors (4tb in a 2.5” package, that’d be 96tb in a 2U 24 bay Supermicro chassis).
So, first question: are they really so bad? I’m guessing the response...
Hello folks,
I want to build a ZFS-Server-NAS with Raid-Z2 and want to stream movies (1:1 Copies of Blu Rays) to Nvidia Shield using Plex / Kodi.
Do I need some Cache for L2ARc, SIL and/or SLOG ?
I have about 32Gigs of ECC RAM for ZFS.
And considering the news that MakeMKV now supports HEVC...
I posted this in the wrong area of the forum.
Hope I have better luck here :)
I am in the process of getting a proper 10gbit vaai supported storage solution for my home lab.
I am considering the QNAP TS-831X, as it has 2x sfp+ built-in, and vaai support + vsphere plugin.
Not sure if the...
Hi all
I am upgrading my Solaris 11.3 home server/NAS. I have 27 x 2TB SATA3 drives, which will be configured as three 9-drive VDEVs; either 3 x RAIDZ2 or 3 x RAIDZ3, I haven't decided yet.
I also plan to add a couple of SSDs for SLOG and read cache, and my question for this thread is about...
I am looking at the Supermicro X10DAL-i with dual E5-2683 v3 CPU's. The motherboard has a listed core/cache limit of 22 cores/ 55mb of cache. The dual CPU's will have a total of 24 physical cores and 70Mbs of cache. With this motherboard will only 22 cores work and only the first 55 mbs of cache...
