Ugh, I got that identical message from the same guy as well in a PM. Luckily in my case I had already completed a buy.

On mine after a little time, the BIOS messages start showing up on the console: eg the POST codes, and any OpROM messages, followed by the "hit DEL to enter setup" etc messages. Have you checked if SOL is enabled in the BIOS settings? I think it was enabled by default on mine.

How are fan-speeds and noise like with the 40x56 fans? I'm afraid to get anything but the short-depth 1U chassis because fan noise will be too high for me. For ref, I can live with around 4000-5000rpm idle on the 40x28's.

Interesting on read vs write. The reason I was interested in it was that this paper for eg measures write latency at 0.4 microseconds, which is almost 50x25x smaller than the latency of the DC P4801x. It seems to be measured in App Direct mode, but without the overhead of filesystem/block layer...

The X570 Pro WS appears to support out-of-band management via ASUS Control Center Express. Anyone know how that compares to IPMI experience/whether regular IPMI tools actually work with it?

Interesting. Wiredzone listing says these have LSI SAS3x28 expander chips, and the doc says it does do buffering. Maybe there's some configuration that SMC didn't do on the backplane?
