Big companies and universities that own large public IP ranges use them internally. I doubt they were publicly routable... Although considering someone went to the trouble of making this ransomware, maybe.
I gave up waiting after months of no info on this case and decided to do a Supermicro 846 build after watching a Youtube video of a guy replacing all the fans with Noctuas. Basically went in the opposite direction of a small compact NAS. :cool:
The sentiment is nice, but it's way too risky for the people involved and there's too much trust involved for the gear to just walk off. There's even a scam artist that's starts up colo businesses reselling rack space in actual datacenters and then walks off with customers gear...
