Greetings,
I just ebayed one of these for $50, installed e5-2680v4 and 32GB of RAM. When I tried to boot, I get stuck with a black screen that says:
"System Booting
This BIOS is compatible for 9215H0
BIOS version: v0.003

(then in the bottom last line it says "Waiting for BMC initialization"

I never managed to get past that since after a minute or so, the system shuts down. Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated.,
Disable the BMC via jumper. If it boots then reflash the BMC.

Do you mind posting which seller you purchased from? I checked sold listings and didn't see any that close to your price point or that show were sold less than list or had offers. Did the seller accept a Best Offer?

I got it from seller ocean-tech. I did best offer and was able to get it for $50, shipping free.

It came with two optional boards: a tyan-branded sas2 controller (giving an additional 2x SFF-8088 to the built-in 2x SFF-8088) and a mellanox cx4 40Gb 1xSPF connection. there are a total of 6xmini-sas3/SFF-8643 ports built-in, all labeled as PCIe_SSD1,2,4,5,6,7. There's also a TPM module installed.

Between all these SAS ports and the two 10GBe NICs, this would make a killer NAS mobo for a little over $100 (I have 2xE5 -2680 v4's and 128GB of ECC DDR4 I paid about another $50 total for).

Unfortunately I'm stuck at the boot screen as reported above and haven't been able to find the "disable BMC" jumper @Fritz was talking about.

I'm not familiar with this board so I don't know if it has a disable BMC jumper or not. But all Supermicro MBs do.

I picked one of these up but have no use for the motherboard. If someone wants the motherboard and is fine compensating for shipping, PM me and we can work something out.

Gone.

I would like to give a huge shoutout to @ribroc . The conversation with him was very smooth and easy, the board arrived very well packed, with all extras (heatsinks, OCP network card, etc), and all of it at the cost of shipping.
I'm still waiting for processors (from a different source), but hopefully I will be able to fire up the board soon.

The board doesn't match the Tyan docs, but I think I found the BMC reset header. I tried switching it, and I think I succeeded in clearing the BMC settings, because now I can't now connect via a web browser. I can connect using Supermicro's IPMIView, but I can't figure out what are the default user name and password.
I can't set the credentials using ipmiutil either, because the board does not boot, and I try to access the BMC to check the fault log.

Do you know any default IPMI credentials used by Hyve or Tyan, which I could try?

EDIT: After several minutes the web login became available, and the IPMITool stopped connecting to the BMC.
I tried "admin" password found by @RolloZ170 in https://forums.servethehome.com/ind...tx-4-installed-149-shipping.34164/post-341104 with typical user names (root, admin, ADMIN, Admin, Administrator), but I still can't get past the login screen

EDIT2: The trick to make IPMIView work is to flip the BMC reset header to "reset", turn on the power supply, and with power on switch the header to "working" position. The board will start booting, and wait for BMC initialization. After a while the BMC will boot enough to obtain the IP address and starts respond to pings. At this point I pressed the Reset button on the board, and on nmap scan port 623 showed up as open. Now IPMIView is able to connect.
Using it I managed to figure out what the most likely correct user name is: for "Administrator" the error message is "Verify error. Please check yout ID and password". For all other usernames the error messages is "Unauthorized name (status code = 0Dh)"

EDIT3: Power cycling the board finishes initialization process. It takes about 15 minutes, but slowly, other services start to appear, including SSH and web interface.
Here is the list of open TCP ports after about an hour since the post-reset power cycle. What is interesting, out of 2 attempts to reset the BMC, first time port 623 disappeared after other services got initialized, and this time remains open, and keeps communicating with IPMIView.

Code:
$ nmap -p 1-65535 -sT 192.168.48.20
Starting Nmap 7.94 ( https://nmap.org ) at 2024-04-28 12:41 EDT
Nmap scan report for hyve-ipmi.localnet (192.168.48.20)
Host is up (0.036s latency).
Not shown: 65530 closed tcp ports (conn-refused)
PORT STATE SERVICE
22/tcp open ssh
80/tcp open http
427/tcp open svrloc
443/tcp open https
623/tcp open oob-ws-http

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 10.18 seconds

If you still haven't solved the issue, try waiting longer. The BMC takes several minutes to initialize after power on. The board doesn't have to be booted, or even powered on for BMC initialization, just leave it connected to power.
