Hi all, remember there being a Taming the C6100 thread on here, but can't find it now. Was it lost with the recent downtime?

Anyway I picked up one very noisy Supermicro 6026TT-HTRF yesterday. The current fans are Nidec UltraFlo V80E12BGA5 which run up to 100CFM, 9500rpm and a whopping 61dBA (taken from Nidec V80E A5 Efficiency Optimized UltraFlo Cooling Fans

They seem to spin down to around 5000rpm when the machine is idle (still loud!), but I feel that as I'm running 8x L5520 CPUs I could get away with slower fans.

I'm wondering what fans I can upgrade(downgrade?) to which are slower and quieter don't sound like a jet! Understand that this thing will never be silent but when idle I'd like it to be as quiet as possible.

Also remember there was a spreadsheet listing all suitable fans for the C6100 which listed CFM ratings etc.

Thanks :)

Cheers, looks like it's going to cost me £50-60 in fans! Almost as much as the server ha

@jseba Thanks :)

@pgh5278 I have already had a play with those settings, while they did make a difference these are still quite loud fans!

Fan list so far:
Supermicro FAN-0074L4
San Ace 9G0812P1F03
Delta FFB0812EHE
Evercool EC8038HH12BP as mentioned above

Still googling to see other options, trouble is with most of these I'll have to order them from the US. Won't be cheap!

The joys of implementing search engines into websites, spent many hours myself making them work perfectly only for them to give up a week later o_O

I replaced the Nidec's in my Supermicro CSE216 with SUPERRED CHC8012BB-N-AH and they are much quieter and draw only .37A max. At the same time they move a lot less air.

I harvested the first from an old Lenovo desktop, tested it and then purchased a few more. My server doesn't put out much heat and my rack is in my basement where the average temperature is ~60F.

Note that while these have 4 pin connectors they don't plug into Supermicro's fan cages without modification. I simply plugged the fans directly into my motherboard.
