Planning to Shut Down the Forums This Weekend

I am hoping this will only be for a maximum of 1 hour. Here is the issue: We need the forums to get from an old cluster to a new cluster and it is going to have to be a cold migration. My plan is either Friday night or Saturday night when activity is lower. The good news is that it will have...

    Captcha on STH main page

@piranha32 should be fixed now. Thanks. We had to re-enable reCapthca. Our Akismet API requests have burned through two paid license levels this month.

    Recommendations for Small Buisness configuration.

That was the worst! Super over-provisioned Kingston "data center" SSDs did not have power inrush protection so a surge in the Dell C6100 took out the drives in every node. People wonder why I have become a fan of losing performance by using mixed brands of drives in RAID 1 in the hosting...

MEGA 2.5GbE Switch Guide Update with 21 New Models Added

Good points. Some thoughts. A big part of this series was really a nudge to vendors like MikroTik to do 2.5GbE, to Netgear to make cheaper 2.5GbE, and so forth. The difference between what it costs for Realtek switch chips that are tens of dollars and switches we saw in 2022 for $500 was crazy...

Replacement server option - Gigabyte R282-Z92 a good option?

@Mark Linton I have actually been looking for a few 2U NVMe single socket EPYC servers. We have a ton of DDR4-3200 and old Milan CPUs so my thought was to build a few low-power hosting nodes with those. The 16TB drives I was thinking of using just for backups and completely removing hard drives...

Very fun and different content today

Hey guys, For those who do not know, last week we had a "drop everything and jump on a plane" opportunity. After 2.5 years of asking, we got a 2-hour window to go look around the IT of an NFL stadium, unguided. That "Go" came about 36 hours before the window opened. Then, I got very sick to the...

Minisforum MS-01 PCIe Card and RAM Compatibility Thread

I have one of these and was hoping to do a roundup / video in September before the move. I showed @WillTaillac that and he was like you MUST do a video on this. I have all the cards on our "to do" shelf for that roundup/ video.

Minisforum MS-01 PCIe Card and RAM Compatibility Thread

Memory is a good idea for this as well. I was told by the Minisforum folks that it works so we used 2x Crucial CT48G56C46S5 48GB DIMMs. We have not seen any issues yet, but the Minisforum folks said they are only supporting 64GB maximum because they did not have time to validate 96GB. Still, in...

Minisforum MS-01 PCIe Card and RAM Compatibility Thread

Just starting this as a repository for what worked and what did not work in the Minisforum MS-01. If you test something, please put it in this thread so folks can see what works, or does not work in these systems. DDR5 SODIMMs Tested Crucial CT48G56C46S5 48GB DIMMs PCIe Cards Tested Worked...

Qotom Denverton fanless system with 4 SFP+

Downloaded Proxmox VE 8.1.3. Installed it. Added SFP+ modules and connected OM4 fiber. Assigned IP addresses and set to autostart. Everything worked immediately.
