    Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-H8iR Stopped working overnight

Forced obsolescence is the theme for this decade unfortunately and Windows is one of the head cheerleaders. Most likely something "updated" and win7 drivers are not longer "trusted". Maybe time to get out from under windows, use the card in IT mode (driverless) and use zfs.

Brocade ICX Series (cheap & powerful 10gbE/40gbE switching)

You really don't have to solder this I did it with a keystone jack (home depot if necessary) and I didn't even punch the cables in. I literally just punched them in with a small piece of plastic. A junk USB mini cable to sacrifice and a keystone. Super simple you'll be amazed.

    PFsense on Hyper-V

Please elaborate what hardware your referring to. This seems completely backwards. Usually no support on Microsoft and works fine on esxi/linux "Server 2016 friendly, dropped hardware support in ESXi and finicky in ProxMox."

Local datastore is also a keyword here. Major reason not to do it this way.

Boot Esxi 7.0 on supermicro x10 NVME m.2

Of course you can however why would you boot off your fastest media? Remember you burn the boot device in esxi and are prevented from utilizing it as a datastore later. So the general use case is to boot off a satadom or USB and save the m.2 for datastore media.

Windows 11, why, why now, and what matters?

"its still the same, just with stuff removed, so its more "secure" and different." New paint does not equal secure. Instead of fixing the problems in the frame and the suspension. Let's just paint it. Our beta testers (customers) will do the security fuzzing for us. This is standard Microsoft...
