    vSphere is not necessarily made to save power, but get the most out of your hardware.. Your only bet would be setting bios settings. You could use DPM with licensed VMware vSphere. A good overview of DPM. http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/Distributed-Power-Management-vSphere.pdf

    You can load VMware esxi on them. Your limited in max memory, but a small box and not so expensive used.

    I have in the past loaded ESXi on those boxes, in a two node config with vCenter at least you would have mobility, etc. Not on HCL, but it's basically a Dell R720.
