They also have a 24sff 2.5" version which has more pictures. The backplane is the SAS216A so it would seem that you could use it as is if you had enough sas ports, or a pci expander. That version has an X8 board in the description and in pictures, so it's overall more consistent.

The numbers don't add up, the description says they have 30, but the lot says lots of 5, and 10 lots available. They probably input 30 items, rather than 5 lots, so be wary if you buy after the first few lots have sold. But indeed a good deal for just the ram. And the trays sometimes sell...

Haven't used with VSAN, but they work just like a standard HBA, with 4 SSDs attached. The OS doesn't recognize the difference. I use the 400GB version in Freenas as a L2ARC, and it did that job well, as far as I could tell.
