@Hal, So I tried with the SAS/RAID PCIe controller card and it works! So if you want to connect disks to the backplane you have two options: a) Replace the SAS node bridge with the SATA one b) Use the SAS bridge and connect a compatible SAS controller

As i though this server has two node bridge configurations as shown on pages 38 to 42: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/motherboards/server/sb/492081_g42283_011_h2000jf_sg_r1_91.pdf I'll try with a compatible 6G PCIe SAS controller and report.

@Hal, did you solve the problem? I have the same problem with this system, none of the disks connected to the backplane are detected on the BIOS or OS as you reported. SAS upgrade keys are installed but makes no difference, i tested every configuration possible. I have another system like...
