Was $149, 125, 115, now just dropped to $99. Hell, better than I ever did on these. HUSSL4040's for $99 were HOT HOT HOT a year or so ago, those were 6Gbps sas2, these are 12Gbps sas3.

Enjoy fellow STH'ers, this'll end ugly...I GUARANTEE it! Sorry all for the loss in your wallets.

HGST HUSMM8040ASS205 400GB 2.5" SAS SSD Server Hard Drive 0B30227 | eBay

EDIT: Looks like super low usage as well per the smartctl, who knows if they are all like that or not but these things have insane endurance ratings.

And before someone asks...

FYI, qty is 242. Yeah, i tried adding all of them to my cart just to see...
What you don't have just $25K chillin' hahah DO IT! j/k

I've said it before and I'll say it again, for ent class sas drives I have not found a better one that I trust through and through due to its performance characteristics and endurance.

Enjoy all!

Yeah, I have a SMC 216A with 12x of these HUSMM8040 and 12x HUSMM8080 ... running on 3x HP H240 HBA controllers. I could only get about 8.5GB/sec seq writes and 10GB/sec seq reads though... I was hoping to get more, but that's still pretty good....

Thanks again, Whitey. Just picked up 6 so I can migrate some of my 6GB VM drives (from that previous HGST sale) over to 12GB.

If memory serves me correct you had 12, do not pass go, do not collect $200, go back and buy 6 more/spend $600 :p hahaha

Ha! I was seriously tempted, but I'm trying to wait until the larger sizes come down in price. How long until we see 800GB SAS3 drives for $100?

Answer...never, least not for a LONG time, nice try though. :-D
Booooooo!!! :)

I'm actually waiting for them to get to around $200 so hopefully someone has a large listing in the next year so I can pickup 6-12 of them. I'm also tempted to say that would last me for a long time, but I know better!

In the meantime I'm going to finally get around to playing with Storage Spaces and see how these 12GB drives work in this configuration with some of my larger client databases.

that would be pretty realistic. i picked up my 12x HUSMM8080 (800GB) SAS3 SSDs for $200 about 1 yr ago.

Ohh my bad, I thought we were talkin 800Gbers for $100 lol, yeah $200 same price breakdown for those drives are otw w/in next 6 months to a yr I'd bet. Got my husmm1680's for $250 each a good year or more ago. They were brand new though so used @ $200 seems reasonable if you keep an eye out for husmm8080's or husmm1680's in that range/steal deal territory.

Very nice! I'm not a bit jealous. :)

I was joking earlier about that price, but I'm definitely keeping an eye out for those in the $200 range. Actually, any larger model that hits at around $100 per 400GB (matching this current deal and the one from last year on a per GB basis) and I'm going to town! I suspect I need to review/change my eBay alerts to be more specific as my current ones don't seem to catch these deals.

I can't say enough good things about these HGST SAS drives. For my development and testing purposes their performance is fantastic. The other key figure I love is their wear ratings which means they will outlast anything I do with them.
