So i just ordered up a new base model HP Microserver Gen10 to play with. Anyone else here use them? If yes any hints or tips?

Current plans are to have it as a file server and AD server with 4x 3.5" data drive and a single SSD though i might drop one of the data drives to add in a second SSD on it.

Will be interested to see just what kind of performance it has with the Opteron X3216 processor

The Opteron X3216 is Excavator based, so pretty dated by modern architecure standards, and two cores clocked at only 1.6GHz (burstable to 3GHz) - so CPU performance will be relatively anaemic. Certainly enough grunt for file serving and running a domain controller, but won't be super speedy.

Ya I figured it was not going to be the fastest but should be good enough for what I am going to be doing with it. For the most part it is going to be set it and forget it hopefully and will mean I can take down or play with the other servers without any issues

A colleague of mine is running FreeNas on a Gen7 which is very similar to the Gen10. HP was "kind" enough to remove the iLom board from the Gen10, which made is difficult for me to use one. Otherwise it's not too bad.
