I am hoping this will only be for a maximum of 1 hour.

Here is the issue: We need the forums to get from an old cluster to a new cluster and it is going to have to be a cold migration.

My plan is either Friday night or Saturday night when activity is lower.

The good news is that it will have a lot more resources in the new cluster.

Just curious, how big is the forum database you're having to move, storage wise ?

You cannot make it read only on old/disable login, transfer to new cluster, verify it is working on new then point DNS to new cluster?

This would actually be an interesting write-up of the process, planning, and execution. The forum is big enough to make such a process and approach plan necessary, but small enough that it is not multi week/months in planning.

I'm not a forum or database expert, but maybe it's just easier to just shut the thing down and copy it vs trying to keep it up in read only mode ?
