Running OmniOS on a SuperMicro box w/ 6 600GB SAS drives (zPool) as ISCSI target. My XenServers both report only 250MB in use (I moved all my VM's off to clear snapshots) however keep getting emails from the server ZFS is near capacity which I know it's not. I read somewhere the only recourse was to delete and re-create - but that CANT be the resolution to this?

pool list (Sum of RAW disk capacity without redundancy counted)
------------------------------
NAME SIZE ALLOC FREE FRAG EXPANDSZ CAP DEDUP HEALTH ALTROOT
ISCSI 2.17T 1.78T 402G 71% - 81% 1.00x ONLINE -
rpool 111G 27.2G 83.8G 15% - 24% 1.00x ONLINE -

Real Pool capacity from zfs list
------------------------------
NAME USED AVAIL MOUNTPOINT %
ISCSI 2.02T 90.7G /ISCSI 4%!
rpool 31.2G 76.3G /rpool 71%

If ZFS claims that 2 TB are used, they are allocated with the options

- you have created a zvol ex 2 TB and formatted that without a thin provisioning option:
even if the disk is empty, it allocates 2TB.

Check your zvols. If you do not need a zvol any longer, delete the zvol,
this is similar to delete a partion to free space on a conventional filesystem.

- you have ZFS filesystems that allocates space (zfs list -t filesystem)
this includes snaps, to check only snaps: zfs list -t snapshot

- you have created a reservation to ensure that a certain capacity is
available for a filesystem.
