Z10PE-D16 WS supports v4 aswell. Not just v3. But it was probably released during haswell and would need bios update to support v4.

Thanks for your post. That's the normal assumption, that it supports V4s with a BIOS upgrade. I have no intention of misleading potential buyers, so what I write is the truth.

I bought a new Z10PED16WS made in 17. And this bord dates in back to 14. The board from 14 does not work with V4s, and the 17 model does. This correlates to the genereal consent, that the board must date after nov. 15, to support v4s. It's already running latest bios 3407. Asus has not made this information public available.

I hope they've recalled all boards laying on selves at shops, and "update these" so new buyers don't run into this exact problem.

Pre Nov. 15, requires a re-send to Asus Support Center, where they modify some chips on the board itself, don't know if its the bios-rom or another chip. The process is free of charges, but can be a lengthy process.

I have bought a new bios-chip, hoping this would fix the board. But since a newer board arrived, I have yet to receive the bios-chip or try it out. I will include this bios-chip for the buyer, free of charge.

Oh interesting. They must have made a mistake with the PVCCIO then. Differs between HSW and BDW. Thats really the only physical diff between the processors. HSW running 1.05V PVCCIO and BDW 0.95V. Or something else wrong entierly ;D

Dang this is tempting. Ipmi and all those threads!
Yes it has IPMI. I generally prefer SM for serverboards. But this time I opted out of SM x10dax and or the x10dai, simply because they were missing dedicated ipmi & m2 slot. Before SM "Hyperspeed tech" it was available "default" on Z10PE16 & Z10PE8, can't say for pre z9pe and so fourth.

I think remember reading, that SM has its IPMI shared among other dedicated Nics, where Asus has a dedicated RJ45 port.

I ran Hyper-V with these babys. Dont know why I upgraded, it's a disease, lol.

What Moblaw said is correct (boards before a certain manufacturing date cannot support v4s) and confirmed by Asus employee after many problems. I have read the article about it but I have forgotten the source.

Price seems fair as well, prices of 2683 v3 have rised.

But the all core turbo is definitely very cool and makes this a worthy build for sure.

Wow! I have the same board with same processors, I couldn't get it that fast thought, would you mind sharing that bios and EFI files please :)?

Cooling will not really be a problem even on "thin air" I mean cheap coolers. What on earth are all those PCIE devices? They look like cheap 1990's soundblasters :D They lowest one seems misaligned from the slot? Quite annoying to look at, eh. Now I see, its missing the bracket :p

Hahahaha, that machine is used for 3d render only but in fact there is a old soundblaster, a 2gb 730 videocard and a old mellanox2 10gbit adapter ;)

Thanks for the heads-up

I got a z10pe-d16 also. like to have this turbo unlock. would it be possible to get it going with the latest bios 3407 or do I have to downgrade bios? also, is there a setting inside the modded bios I can use to temporarily disable the turbo unlock or do I have to flash back to unmodded bios to get rid of this feature?

You'll find the latest BIOS (3407) inside the hyperlink for download options, modded & unmoddd. Also everything else you might need. When you load/insert a certain EFI file in EFI-Shell-Boot command, it becomes available as on/off inside the BIOS after. But even then, the BIOS is still without cpu microcodes, so behaviour is still much like "unlocked". EFI files is a way to force the OS to use those, instead of trying to inject system .dll files which are vendor locked, and built for stability purpose etc. So yes, a reflash to original bios is probably for the better, if you want to get rid of this feature..

If someone has dual 2696 v3, they can reach cinebench r15 5800 points, which is a step above dual 2699 v4s.

I see 3304 and 3307 under modded. is that mislabeled and supposed to be 3407?

also how much more power usage? how do I know I need a better cooling solution?

If you read everything in this "tiny" thread, you'll read, that you do not need to increase your cooling solution. Except if you are running 2696 v3 or 2686 v3, and you can still watch your thermals, processor doesn't care about temperature, it just throttles down the frequency if its above tjunction.

For my 2683 v3s, the watt increase for me went from my entire rig (ups-reading+switch+router+wifi) before mod consuming 274w, to consuming 294-324watt, so I estimate the power increase to be max 50watt. The reason for this is c6 & c3 states does save you a bit of power. If those could be enabled (they can't using this mod) then the watt would be much closer to stock.

And no, 3304 is a modded version of original 3304, and 3407 is modded of the newest BIOS as of 30.09.17. Folder modded is only modded.
