Currently I have it running as a VM on an ESXi 5.1 host for testing. VMware Paravirtual SCSI driver support was supposed to be added to XPEnology DS3612xs DSM 4.1 build 2668++ (more hardware) but I found installing this hardware actually causes the VM to shut itself down after boot. I wasn't the only one to report this issue so hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.

I plan to test it on an HP Microserver this week as well.

Synology DSM 4.1

Not sure of the legalities of this, but I found this software earlier and have it working natively on a x86 machine and also under a VM,
can a link be posted on here?

I've just been messing around with it on a HP N36L and must say it's pretty amazing and seems quicker than an actual Synology box.

I guess we merged the two threads as it was found out they're one and the same? Hmm. I tried looking, and found something off avsforum. The guy renamed the files, didn't credit the originator or link back to the community.

Glad a moderator took their time to look in to this, I didn't want to post any links on here so sent them via PM.

Shame that person didn't acknowledge someone else's work! or contribute to the community like you said.

Does this work with DSM 4.2? I'd want to have active-active storage. Can I buy one Synology and run this then do active active?

Has anyone tried running this VM in an all-in-one configuration? If so did you leave the sharing on the Openindiana side of things with SMB or did you give some dedicated storage to the Synology to run shares? The reason I am asking is it looks like a very easy way to network into your shares across the web and I would ideally like to do that, but am unsure the best way to do this. Thanks for any insight.
