Thank you.

What is next?
Xpenology DSM 5.0 with Brocade 1020 ( Just tried a Brocade 1020 in Xpenology DSM5.0, there is no support for Brocade 1020, Xpenology DSM4.2 have support)
Virtual Xpenology on top of Hyper-v with pass thru disk and 10gb
Virtual Xpenology on top of ESXi 5.5 with pass thru disk controller and 10gb

I like to limit the speed to 10gb, I had done work with 40gb, due to limitation my hardware and pci bus. It just not worth the extra tweaking time.
Watching file copy in smb3.0 copying from memory disk to memory disk approach 40gb/s is a lot fun, not useful for my real need.

I assume you meant smb3 multi-channel support.

Hyper-v host supports smb3 multi-channel. VM on top of hyper-v host do not, vm just sees a big fat pipe.

There is no smb3 multi-channel support in xpenology or real Synology server, just one 10gb pipe in this case.

If you use Windows 2012 or R2 as storage server, you will have smb3 multi-channel. i.e. a cheap dual 10gb card is equal to 20gb with smb3 .

I have a Dell C6100 with the infiniband mezzanine card installed in each node. They're essentially Mellanox ConnectX-2 VPI cards capable of 40Gbps. Would be great if I can install XPEnology on one node with all 12 hard drives connected acting as iSCSI target and the other 3 running a hypervisor of some sort connecting over infiniband. Can XPEnology handle the ConnectX-2 VPI card?

I have not tried the VPI card in IB mode. I always use EN ip mode. For I have a real difficult time to generate real storage traffic beyond 2 x 10gb.
Late last year and earlier this year, I was able to purchased 24 Mellanox ConnectX-2 dual 10gb card in 3 ebay auctions , $35 per card. It is as cheap as dual 1gb Intel card.
Now I don't have desire to spend more $$$ on 40gb hardware.

I do have quite a few ConnectX-2 VPI cards, may be this weekend, I could give a the 40gb card a test.

I would love to know if the connectx2 vpi cards in ethernet mode produce the same results, and or if it will work in ipoib mode as well. Though more interested in speeds running those vpi in 10gb Ethernet. Thanks for the hard work it is appreciated.

Was this every answered about the c6100 mezzanine cards working with xpenology? I was thinking about turning one of my nodes into a box.
