If that's the case and it's dell exclusive like that then there must be really limited supply for AMD to do a deal like that.

There doesn't seem to be a shortage of 1950x cpu. you can readily get one right now from multiple vendors and there's no limit per customer.

BTW Dell has secured an exclusive deal with AMD about Thteadripper which states that until the end of 2018 only Dell can release TR-based workstations. This affects only the most high-volume OEMs such as HP etc.

AMD Threadripper PCs exclusive to Alienware in 2017 [Update]

So the Area 51 Alienware might be the only workstation from the big seller OEMs until next year...

When is an exclusive not an exclusive?
Alienware's so-called exclusive is a matter of semantics. "Through 2017, (Alienware) will be the exclusive OEM partner to deliver AMD Ryzen Threadripper pre-built systems to the market and the high-end 16-core will be factory overclocked across all 16-cores and 32 logical threads," Alienware said.

What the company meant by "OEM" is major PC vendors like HP and Lenovo, rivals to its parent company, Dell. Smaller, boutique PC companies such as Origin PC, Maingear, iBuypower, and Cyberpower will be able to build machines using Threadripper this year, as will DIY PC builders.
