Xeon E5-4600 in a dual socket mobo

Hi sth,

Was looking at these two listings:
Intel Xeon E5 4617 ES 2 9GHz 15MB Hex Core HT LGA2011 130W 32nm C0 Stepping QB85 | eBay

and

Intel Xeon E5 4650L ES 2.6Ghz HT 20MB 8 Core LGA2011 115W 32nm C0 Stepping QB86

Both are C0 stepping xeon e5-4600 series processors. Usually that means OK mobo compatibility. Here's my question, has anyone tried these in a dual socket motherboard? Seems like they might make a less expensive option. I'm thinking of using these until early 2014. At that point, I'm hoping to go IB-EP. I'd just want to setup a system now so I can use the mem and PCIe in the meantime.

Hex-core - No HT like the title claims. These are intended for 2P and 4P systems.



ARK | Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-4650L (20M Cache, 2.60 GHz, 8.00 GT/s Intel® QPI)
Oct-core - HT enabled. This is a beasty and yes, 2P and 4P system support.

If you want info on CPU's, google the CPU and goto the Intel Ark. Take note of the "Scalability" section for your question being asked.

Here's my thoughts: Those are some decent deals on the 4P enabled chips. With that said, C0 is probably the minimum stepping where you may have some success. I still have some C0 E5's that are quite a pain to deal with though.
