I am trying to figure out the value difference between an E5-2680V1 and an E5-2697V2 on the LGA2011 platform.

According to the basic spec sheet comparison (Intel® Product Specification Comparison) at Intel the architecture looks vary similar with the exception of the extra cores/threads and a slight bump in cache memory.

What are some other differences that you guys would consider that might make me want to use the V2 over the V1 variants in a homelab setup, especially considering the difference in price?

Ebay Prices:
- E5-2697V2 - $275.00
- E5-2680V1 - $90.00

Thanks!

More cores, more threads, (more cache due to more cores), ability to run RAM at 1866 speed, less power usage.

That’s the advantage of V2 and the 2697.

The 2697 v2 was the flagship processor of that generation so will always be priced at the higher end of the scale for v2.

If you need 12 cores and the fastest clock speed for all these cores then it’s worth paying the extra.
