This has been at this price for a while. I imagine not many people have jumped cause it's not as slick of a deal as the v1.

Agreed!

I've actually been finding that, for my needs, the E5-2643v1 is a pretty good deal. It's around $70. 4 cores, 8 threads, 3.3Ghz base, 3.5Ghz turbo. I have the 2670 and the 2620, and find that overall, since my workloads are not super threaded, I get better performance on VMWare with that CPU. The v2 version is very expensive, but like the 2670, the 2643 appears to be the hot deal at the moment...

To be fair I don't think anyone was aware of it until everyone had already bought a bunch of boards.

What do you mean by 2.0?
I believe this refers to PCIe 2.0/5g bus limit with V1 CPUs on these Intel motherboards. V2 CPU gets you PCIe 3.0/8g bus.
:). ...I would like a pair of E5 V2 CPUs for my Intel motherboard, to use my PCIe 3.0 cards :)

That price has been there for a while. I was thinking of grab some to put on our E5 boards, but ended up with some dirt cheap 2640s.

Yeah good point, cheap 2640's seems like a very easy option.. save $200 and wait until the 2660 V2's drop in price, or even something faster.

If I could pick up the V2's for $100 each I'd grab a couple, but $22 for a 2640 is still a good jump in performance for me.

er

Where do you guys find deals for the 2640?
ebay, pick your keywords like "E5-2640" and sort by price? Try "lot" when you want more than 1.

$19 2640 -> ebay seller "keystonememory" gives me the (nearly) best price.
