Has anyone purchased this CPU and got it working? I have tried on an HP and a Quanta server with no luck. Trying to see if the CPU is just bad. I know this is a custom AWS CPU. I actually deployed an AWS instance that uses this CPU and have verified the CPUID is the same as the other Second Gen scalable Xeons. Curious what other flags there could be for this CPU that are causing it not to POST.

I'd guess microcode not in the firmware on your motherboard. That has been common for many generations. Sometimes smaller vendors have extra microcode.

I can see the microcode for my CPUID in the BIOS file I've used since everything from the same family of CPUs seem to use the same CPUID, even my AWS custom chip. The AWS instance showed a custom microcode revision I could not find anywhere else though, but I'm not sure the CPU would require the custom firmware to work? Especially since the person I was able to buy this from said they test on an Asus motherboard and it works there.

I talked about this before, these "Amazon type" CPUs need the PWM to have supported programming to work. Now Asrockrack boards, some Gigabyte boards and new version of Supermicro X11DAI/X11DPI support them.

And 8259L/8259CL are great CPUs, they're only 10% slower than 8280. Just a little selective about motherboards.

@111alan How does one check for it? I own a OCP Project Olympus motherboard, does it support a PWM programming? (datasheet)
Only way to check whether it supports the cpu or not is to plug a CPU in and test. Those CPUs uses the same microcodes as regular ones so BIOS is not an issue.

The PWM controllers on all C62x boards I saw are either ISL or TI controllers, both are reprogrammable by desoldering it and programming it with the corresponding programmer, but the programmers(or development kits) are pretty expensive. I suggest you to contact the motherboard manufacturer to see if they can help, if not, getting a new board is usually more economical.

There may be a possibility to use GPIO or a SPI programmer instead, if you're familiar with these kind of stuff you can look into the PWM controller's datasheet to see if you can do these with jumper wires. I never studied these methods though, too hard for me.

Any updates on this? Could anyone confirm what Amazon cpus are supported on X11DAI/X11DPI?

work NOT on stock X11DAI/X11DPI.
the VRM needs modified(VRM upgrade)
the boards can be updated without desoldering anything by PMBus(I2C).
used controllers are TPS53679 or MP2955A.

the following run 8124M/8259L/8259CL out of the box.
ALL ASRock Rack EPC621xxx, WC621xxx, EP2C621xxx,EP2C622xxx
Gigabyte MU71-SU0
Gigabyte MD71-HB0
Supermicro X11DPU (also the OEMs Nutanix and co.)

long time ago i know but...
i got a Microsoft MtOlympus C2012 too, its BIOS supports only Skylake, but 240W TDP / 255A TDC is no problem, 8124M & 8175M working.
there is a newer revision C2030 (with the MEZZ port) which supports 2nd Gen Scalables, we need this BIOS thought.

@RolloZ170 Mind helping me out for a moment? Would be awesome.

Looks like I just bought the very last three EPC621D8A available in Europe for a side project. Also bought two 8259CL from @tesla100 with a third in progress. Now I have a slight problem: Selecting RAM.

Wikipedia says the 8259CL IMC supports DDR4-2666 maximum. True?

For expense and latency reasons, and to use all 6 channels, I am looking at 32 GB RDIMMs for the boards. So just buy a bunch of M393A4K40CB2-CTD from anywhere and be done with it?

What happens if I buy -2933 CL21 or -3200 CL22, because same price or whatever? Where will the IMC get its info about a -2666 CL19 profile from, which the CPU supports max? SPD? Does Samsung have that in SPD or would Kingston be a safer choice? Or will that have to be an option in BIOS to manually specify RAM clock parameters? Or will machine just guess and set a suboptimal -2666 CL22?

Highly appreciate your expertise. Thanks! :)

yes.

BIOS reads from profile in SPD, and initialises the IMC to proper frq.
each JEDEC compatible memory is good(imho there is no nonJEDEC RDIMM)
Or will machine just guess and set a suboptimal -2666 CL22?
worst case. job of the BIOS(programmer)
if you have those RAM inserted, you can see the (multiple) profiles in HWinfo i.e.

X11DPi-N(T) does not support 8259CL out of the Box. a VRM upgrade/modding is required.
But the X11DPi-N Rev. 1.2 has old buggy VRM stage. and no mounting holes for CPU1 VRM Heatsinks, it will blow up, sorry.

how about dell precision 7820 mother board with xeon 8259cl?
with modified VRM. ICC_MAX must be changed to 255A. but Dell uses Primarion PXE1610C VRM controller.
Access needs USB DOngle from Infineon and PowerCode software because Primarion uses a prprietäry method of NVM(OTP2) storage.
The Dongle is a HID Device and uses a C8051F320, the Vendor/Device ID is VID_16C0&PID_06ED

update: the Dongle is not required anymore, check this

Platinum 8175M is working with modd.

no, this is for IR parts and PowIRCenter software.
the PXE1610C VRM controller is old parts of Primarion, Infineon acquired Primarion.
you need PX-DNGL-01 (other part PXDNGL01TOBO1)
this is a USB to I2C interface with Dongle(I2C Master & copy-protection) for the Primarion PowerCode Software.
