SuperMicro Server 1U E5 2620 2CPU 4 bay X9DRDEF Motherboard - uec | eBay

30x avaliable

Seller with great communication that has accepted great (nearly 50% off in quantity) offers for me in the past and provides free shipping which can't be cheap. I believe they're a hosting company decommissioning these. $320 is currently the cheapest I see this board alone one eBay. Get em while they're hot, and save my wallet. I'm sure they won't last long once posted here.

They also have e3-1230 x9scl-F units avaliable and accepted $75 per in quantity. Wish they would have posted these e5s before I bought 6 of these. Anyone want to buy some e3 nodes?... ha

Got his last E3 v2 1U setup for 150$ shipped.

Not bad since the CPU alone goes for $105-$115 last couple months.

E3 much quieter and cooler than E5 so keep that in midn!!

The e3s really aren't that loud after the jet engine bootup unless under sustained heavy load. They idle at 20-40 watts depending on the configuration.
Yeah, this is a very good point. The E3 are much cooler, less air needed, but still 1U 'sound'/'drone'... but ya, E3 way better in 1U than E5 haha! Although some of my Intel 1U E5 setup are not bad at all, then again it seems Intel chassis are nicely engineered too!!

I'd grab an E3 if it had IPMI and just swap guts to a new case.
No IPMI, really? Wow.

If you look at the pics there is no IPMI. Funny I was looking at the V2 setup. I would like to get all home VMs into one low power, low noise server. 1U with 4x hot swap I think would be ideal.

I hadn't taken a close look at the v2, but the x9scl-f with the 1230 definitely has IPMI.

I would love to have more of the E3, if it wasnt for that the unbuffered memory is A LOT more expensive than registered on Ebay.

But it also depends a lot on your workloads.

For a query in PostgreSQL that involves doing simple sum operations for around 10 billion records, dual E5640 performs very similar to a E3-1240v2.
The E5640 system has 72GB ram and the E3-1240v2 has only 16GB ram. So even with more memory and cache hits it isn't magically better.

With Redis a lot of RAM is awesome, but it only also scales on a single cpu core.

Sorry guys, I got the V1 (well he had 2 of them so I got them both) as well.

I'll probably sell one of the V1s complete I only wanted/needed one but since I was getting multiple we just bundled 3 packages.
Send me a message if you're interested in 1 of the E3 v1, I can likely move it to a SC216 chassis too if you want to pay more but have a much nicer 24x hot swap chassis.

I also need some UDIMM now so if you have those I may want to trade for part(s) or buy.

Those E5's are super even at 300. I wonder if you can fit a PCIe riser in them? Looks like it would be possible.
