Looks like the ASRock Rack X570D4U-2L2T is now up for Pre-Order on Provantage. There are no details yet and the page isn't even up on ASRock Rack's website. I'll post back here when more information is known but I thought I'd at least let people know that it supposedly exists.

First image and information on the X570D4U-2L2T is now up on the ASRock Rack 2020 Catalog.

Things of note from the picture:
- There are 6 fan headers with 3 being 6-pin fan headers and the other 3 being 4-pin...it looks like 4-pin fans should fit in the 6-pin headers though
- Still no USB 2.0 from the looks of it...not a huge deal but I'd really like it
- There is no chipset fan
- The area surrounding the socket has been widened as to not interfere with the first ram slot

Man I was going to pull the trigger on the X570D4I soon but this is such a more flexible board. The only thing is I hate boards that require 8 individual SATA cables... but that might be a worthwhile trade off for full sized DIMMs vs. the SODIMMs in the D4I.

Very insteresting board! X570 is supposed to have higher power consumption than X470 though... Anyone has a review with power numbers?
This would be perfect companion for a new Ryzen 4000G (Renoir) server

I agree. Something like the Ryzen 4700GE at 35 watts for a 8C/16T chip makes for a compelling alternative to something like a Intel e-2100 or 2200 Xeon setup. I'm in a U-NAS 810a with an e-2176g and while it runs cool and quiet, I most certainly would have bought something like this had it been available.

I believe the APUs have 8 less PCIE lanes, and ECC is only on the Pro versions - unless things are different with Renoir to prior Ryzen APUs which might be worth looking into depending on what your using it for

There are rumors that desktop Renoir will have a full 16+4+4 lane config from the APU, vs mobile Renoir having 8+4. This is just speculation though and hasn't been confirmed whether officially or via leaks. My hunch is that desktop Renoir will have the same PCIe configuration as the mobile side.

There’s also now a regular X570D4U which wasn’t even listed in their new catalog:ASRock Rack > X570D4U

Interesting that the move from X470DU saw the middle slot go from 3.0 x4 to 4.0 x1. My guess is they didn’t want to add too many PCIE 4.0 lanes that would cause them to add a chipset fan.

After a cursory look, it doesn’t seem like there’s a big difference between the -2L2T and base variants, except for inclusion of the 10GBASE-T NIC. A bit different from the X470 versions where the slot layout is different between variants. I haven’t had time to add up the PCIe lanes, but it doesn’t look like ASRock is utilizing all the available lanes.

Shame that there’s no x4 slot from the chipset. Double shame that the M.2 slots are not both 22110, which would’ve been useful for mirrored optane.

The lack of a x4 slot on the -2L2T makes sense because of the 2 x 10gbe ports (just like the X470D4U2-2T). The lack of the x4 slot on the regular X570D4U is most likely due to them not wanting to push the chipset heat. They just have a passive heatsink on the chipset and probably didn’t want to use all available lanes and cause it to overheat.

Ok, so I had a look at the X570 platform diagram.

CPU (24 lanes):
x16 / dual x8
x4 NVMe
x4 X570 chipset

X570 (16 lanes, only 12 lanes can be allocated):
x8
x4 NVMe / x4 / dual x2 / quad x1 / 4 x SATA
x4 NVMe / x4 / dual x2 / quad x1 / 4 x SATA

The X570 already provides 4 x SATA, so the board is using one flexible PCIe block for another 4 x SATA. Assuming the BMC uses a x1 lane from the second flexible PCIe block, this still leaves us with 3 x1 lanes from that block, and the X550-AT2 needs 4 lanes. Not entirely sure which block they are attaching the second NVMe to, since the x8 lane block can't be configured or split up AFAIK.

I am building a server with Unraid and ZFS inside for a plex media server with some VM's for my smart home with about 160TB worth of media (with possible future expansion of capacity). I was going to get the X470D4U2-2T but the X570D4U-2L2T is out I am not sure. Could someone point out the main advantages of the 570 over the 470 please ?

I would like to use the new Ryzen 4000 CPU coming out in Oct 2020 or Zen 3950x, ECC RAM, NVME, P2000, LSI card to connect all my HHD's

I’m also an UnRAID user so I can give some advice.

The main advantages of X570 over X470 are the ability to eventually go to a Zen 3 CPU (X470 support isn’t guaranteed), PCIE 4.0 (lots more bandwidth), and in the case of these motherboards, hopefully a better functioning and laid out motherboard (more distance from socket to first ram slot, more stability from learned experience from working on the X470 board, etc).

In terms of CPU choice, I wouldn’t go with a new Zen 3 CPU right away with either UnRAID or this motherboard. We’re not sure what issues may pop up with UnRAID and these new CPU’s. The current Linux kernel on the last stable 6.8 UnRAID build is only 4.19. The 6.9 beta should be okay but it still has bugs that are being worked out. You’ll need the 6.9 beta release if you want support for ECC with a Zen 2 CPU. As far as Zen 3 support for this new motherboard, who knows how long that will take. ASRock Rack is very slow to make BIOS updates.

The main advantage is going to be the PCI 4.0 bandwidths the cards you have listed will be easily covered.

With a 16 core/32 thread CPU, 10 Gbe, and PCIE 4.0 lanes, you should be covered for a long time to come.

How did you collect 160Tb of media so far without this or did you buy a system prebuilt?
