Hi All,

This is my first post.
I found this forum while googling about my new X11DPH-T motherboard ("new" because just bought it "used" on eBay :D).

Although I still have to install the 2 Xeon 6138 CPUs, I already installed 256GB RAM (8x32GB Samsung 2Rx4 PC4-2666V DDR4 M393A4K40BB2-CTD7Y ECC Reg.) and started playing around with the IPMI.

I can reach the MB and connect, but the only information I get are the below:

Code:
System

Firmware Revision : 01.64
IP Address: 192.168.001.209
Firmware Build Time : 01/16/2019

BMC MAC Address: ac:1f:6b:xx:xx:xx
System LAN1 MAC address :ac:1f:6b:xx:xx:xx

Redfish Version : 1.0.1
CPLD Version: 02.b6.02
In the hardware information, it shows values, but I have no CPUs installed and the RAM seems to be the Samsung 64GB (X4B64QA4XVWDSO-7-TN1)

And there are no values if I check the sensors

I thought that updating the BIOS & the BMC would have fixed the issue.

I tried to do it via the web interface, but I got the "BMC can't force ME to recovery mode" error.
Luckily, I found this post and was able to update both.

I rebooted it and I can now read

Code:
System

Firmware Revision: 01.74.14
IP Address: 192.168.001.209

Firmware Build Time: 11/30/2023
BMC MAC Address: ac:1f:6b:xx:xx:xx

System LAN1 MAC Address: ac:1f:6b:xx:xx:xx
IPv6 Address1 : fe80:0:0:0:ae1f:6bxx:xxxx:xxxx/64

Redfish Version: 1.8.0
CPLD Version: 02.B6.02
But I have the same values in Hardware Information and in Sensor Readings

Via the SUM command I'm getting:

Code:
sudo ./sum -i 192.168.1.209 -u ADMIN -p ADMIN -c GetBmcInfo

Supermicro Update Manager (for UEFI BIOS) 2.13.0 (2023/08/25) (x86_64)

....
Managed system...........192.168.1.209
    BMC type.............X11_ATEN_AST2500
    BMC version..........01.74.14
    BMC ext. version.....01 00 00 (P)
    BMC build date.......2023/11/30
and this:

Code:
sudo ./sum -i 192.168.1.209 -u ADMIN -p ADMIN -c GetBiosInfo

Supermicro Update Manager (for UEFI BIOS) 2.13.0 (2023/08/25) (x86_64)

....
Managed system..........................192.168.1.209
    Board ID............................0981
    BIOS build date.....................N/A
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help

Hardware info doesn't get updated until the next successful POST, sensors only read when the system is running, what you've got looks all as expected.

Thanks for your quick reply.

To POST do I need a vga cable?

No, you can use the HTML5 KVM provided by IPMI, but you do need a CPU or two.
So I need to wait for the CPU holder and the heatsink to go ahead

you also need both bios and bmc firmware matching (being around same version) else it may fail to do anything.
I updated both to the latest version I could find on the Supermicro website (BIOS = 4.2 / BCM = 1.74).
Should be fine, no?

reset cmos (unplug, take out battery for couple minutes), restore to factory settings bmc, then retry flashing bios again.

This screams someone played with it or oem - look if mobo has any signs of work being done on her around bios rom chip.

Your result might be as intended because someone played with it. If its not an issue i would ignore.

I did it twice
When updating the BIOS it told me it was moving from v4.2 to v4.2
So I guess it's correctly updated.

Now I have to wait for the CPU holder and the heatsink to boot it up

Unless I'm missing something :D

Now is the time to acquire a T30 Torx driver if you don't have one, these coolers usually need one and don't have space to fit the hex bit holder type driver. Aside from that just be careful not to drop the CPU/cooler assembly onto the fragile pins, follow the screw tighten sequence that should be printed on the top of the cooler (bottom out each screw before moving to the next,) and you should be good.

So....the heatsinks arrived, I mounted them with the CPUs, and I could boot.
I can now see my configuration in the Hardware Information.
I can even boot from USB and start Proxmox installation.

However, I noticed the heatsink fans didn't start, and when I checked under the System Health menu, I saw this:

But under the Sensor Reading I still have this:

How can I fix it?

More Info:

  1. I used a thermal pad (0.5mm - 13W) between the CPU and the heatsink. Do you suggest thermal paste instead?
  2. The date (2023/12/15) is the one in the Bios. Not changed yet
  3. I connected the heatsink to FAN A/FAN B connector. I also tried the FAN 1/FAN 2 slot as well. They never spin
  4. Thanks for your help

I've had fine results using 0.5mm thermal pads on LGA3647 CPUs, and it seems odd that the fans wouldn't spin at all, they mostly can't be brought to a full stop by the PWM signal, you should test them on another system or connected to a Molex power adapter or something.

I also see a warning for a low CMOS battery, you should replace that, can cause all sorts of issues, though probably not the fan thing.

LGA3647 and following sockets are special because the CPU is mounted with Cooler on top.
any higher distance between CPU and Cooler will result in more unwanted socket pressure.
if you mount the CPU one time this may work but the sockets leaf springs worn out faster.
