BMC is running at 4.45v. SM Doctor and IPMI are calling it a fail. AI says it's gonna explode if I keep running it. I've eliminated the PSU's as the problem so that just leaves the MB as the suspect. Anybody ever see this problem? Is the MB toast?

TIA :)

I have that MB on a Server (WIP).
If you tell me how to check it, I can tell how its running mine when I get back home.

Thanks. Superdoctor, IPMI and IPMITOOL all confirmed the over voltage. IPMITOOL is a cli tool. I don't remember the command but I'll fire the server up again sometime this morning, I saved it there. I also have another server running the same MB, I'm cranking it up now to check it.

The other server I have running this board is showing 1.2v which is perfect.

Nope, I have just one and mine was powered on 24/7 for 8+ years with a short break where I tried it in another supermicro chassis

These boards are now about 11 years old, depending on when you got it it might have been in systems that were "abusing" hardware (crypto minig, ai). At this point I expect problems and wouldn't use it for a "critical" application anymore ._.

Did you restart the bmc just to make sure it's not reading something weird that's not there? (Similar to fans not detected or too many fans detected)

Yes I did and no joy.

It is really strange, because BMC normally is running on 5VSB power rail so 4.45v is critically low. Many non server psu have bad 5vsb rail, that doesn't handle boards with BMC well but even then 5vsb dropping to 4.45v is below atx specs. Not sure what the over voltage warning is about. Maybe bmc circuit fed by the 5vsb but lowers itself to something lower that the aspeed core uses then your mobo may have voltage regulator dead or something and it's pumping almost pure 5vsb to the chip. Well according to quick googling aspeed 2500 core normal voltage is 1v so if that gauge showing that then yes it may explode because it heavily overvolted.

I asked AI a second time and got a different answer. This time it said it was most likely to be a reading in error and went on to explain why and gave some tips on how to correct it, or at least cover it up. I'm going to play with it some more today. I have it on the test bench, I replaced it with another MB so I can play at my leisure.

Have you changed anything in the recent times around this issue appearing?

Physical damage to smd components around the BMC is highly likely in this scenario

Nope, no changes at all. I just noticed it one day when I was in Superdoctor. I have the board mounted in my test frame and as far as problems, there are none. nor have there been any glitches. AI freaked me out when I first asked about it, said it was going to melt down and start a fire, i should shut it down immediately. As usual, AI was full of shit as evidenced by the response to my second query where it said it was most likely a false reading. I've had quite a fe SM boards over the years and this is the first time I've run into this problem.
