Hi. I am new here and I found this forum to be an excellent resource on Supermicro hardware.
I am getting some refurb X10SRi-F motherboard w/o CPU and RAM.
I am wondering whether I can use V1 or V2 Xeons with it (I have few of these collecting dust)?
Supermicro site tells nothing about backwards compatibility, only mentions V3 and V4.
Also, I know that SM is super picky about RAM.
I would appreciate if you guys recommend the cheapest RAM to get. DDR4 RAM looks to be more expensive than everything else combined :(
Many thanks.

You are looking for X9 if you want to use V1/ V2 and DDR3

V1/V2 and V3/V4 E5 Xeons use different sockets, so they are not compatible. 2011 and 2011-3 only share the same number of pins.

Is SuperMicro picky on RAM? It has accepted everything I threw at them.

Not really.
But If you have a problem sm will Tell you to use memory from their compatibility list before you get support.
