Hey guys.

Selling 8 E5-2650L V2 processors, 10 core, 20 thread, you can look up the rest of the info on Intel's site.

These are working pulls, swapped out of a Dell VRTX.

sold Prefer to sell in pairs or all 8 for $600 USD. International buyers pay cost of USPS international priority shipping.

Does anyone know how E5-2650L v2 compares to E5-2650 v2 power consumption at idle? Also, is this a worthwhile upgrade from E5-2670 v1?

I've gotten a few PMs on these, my personal priority is towards people who buy more than 1 pair of chips, but I haven't gotten a PM from eptesicus though. Then I'll go through my PMs and respond to people who messaged me first and are state-side. If they changed their mind I'll respond to international PMs.

Thanks Samir, this is useful. What I am still having trouble finding, is information on idle power consumption.
I don't know if this information would be available outside of the technical documents for these processors which should show a graph of load vs heat generated. You could then compare the graphs and that would give you the exact information you seek.

But just by the comparison I posted and the performance comparison here on passmark,

I believe that if you're running a task on both at idle, the L version will use about the same amount of power as the non-L for the same level of performance (if the task is multi-threaded--otherwise it will simply run slower and will use less power).

Thanks again for more useful information Samir. My use case does not normally involve full load, and a lot of the time it is at idle. As you suggested, hunting for technical documents, I found this:


which suggests about a 30% idle power reduction in Idle Power Targets, if LV includes L variant.

Power Consumption
We used data from our Extech power meter to do a quick comparison across generations.


Intel Xeon E5-2620 V1 V2 V3 – Power Consumption
We see some fairly dramatic gains between the V1 and V2 generations. The E5-2620 V1 samples were from just around launch in 2012 whereas the V2 samples were from early 2014. What the graph does show is the impact of both Haswell-EP idle power consumption savings as well as the impact of transitioning from V1 on a 32nm process to V2 on the 22nm process.
