If Adaptec is compatible with your use case, I have ASR-78165 can be configured as HBA in bios. Has 4x sff-8644 and 2x sff-8643

Keep an eye out on eBay. I've purchased two of these in the last 60 days for $299 ea. Both were listed @$450+ and accepted best offers

...I actually almost purchased those exact cards prior to doing some research on a 9300 vs 9305.

Better HBA how, better more beefier chipset or some other super-juice? Have not had the time to RTFM just yet so please do enlighten me if you'd be so kind.

Are the chipset progression in alignment with how the SAS2 chipsets were, IE 2008/2108/etc. so maybe 3008, 3108, etc? Assuming the 9305 has 'the good stuff'

I'd have to go back and do some research on the details, but iirc the 9300-16e is basically two 8's shoved on the same board, whereas the 9305-16 is a redesigned controller. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can chime in..

The 9300 runs HOT, the 9305 very much less so. I use a 9305-24i for my 2.5” drives and a 9305-16e for 16 3.5” drives in another 24 bay chassis, now I need to add another 8 drives hence needing another card.

I’ll try ebay offers circa 300, thanks for the tips.

hes sending a retail model - sounds like this was an oversight.... he's been great in terms of comms so far so hoping he follows through. Ideally looking to reconfigure some servers this weekend.

Very happy seller despatched another card without need for payment or deposit which arrived today. This one is a perfect retail example so big props to 'sotech2015' for being so awesome and trusting.
