i don't want to sell you a pair for 500€. just wanted to know what's your budget.
i see 300 only if you are a company (without VAT)
My last sentence didn't sound good. Was not directed to you, it was in the meaning that I'm searching here for cheaper alternatives than ebay.

If high clocks are needed then consider 6244 with 20% higher single core performance than obsolete 6154s. A pair costs 180-200Eur max.
I need to find balance between high clocks and cores.
6254 would be perfect as they can turbo 3.9ghz on all 18 cores.
6154 can turbo 3.7 on all 18.
6244's 8 cores is not enough unfortunatelly.

I have no idea really, just trying to future proof. That box will have one purpose: host minecraft servers for local community, those are mainly single thread java based and to ensure smooth experience, high clocks are preferable.

I was just asking and poking to get more info on the related project. Most who cry for core counts often don't realize they are not even at 10% cpu usage for 95% of their time. With ~100 ppl you are good with dual-6244's = 16 cores + 16 threads able to clock 4.2-4.4Ghz. 6154 or 6254's are overkill. Think about it before you put urself in the corner buying obsolete hardware (6154) that just lifts others storage constrains. Go Gen2 and get some cheap Optane to help chunk loading performance if you really need Cascade Lake.

Tbh, for Minecraft I would not even consider any Cascade Lake CPU. You mentioned future proof. Go the AMD Ryzen 7 way for Minecraft community server.

Sure, no problem :)
I have dl360 gen10 gathering dust, I wanted to give them a purpose, hence cascade lake.
What storage constraints you have in mind?
I was thinking about Optane when I was considering L-type cpu, but I have enough memory laying around.

What's your recommendation for ryzen 7 setup? Mc12+7600x?

In terms of performance vs price etc I believe Ryzen 7 5-Series is still the favorite. Even 7-Series is overkill. Just ram .... grrrr. Optane I meant to use just for storage purposes (cache).
