Hi,

Long shot in nowadays market, but maybe has some to spare (or trade). Need some for the kids AM4 Box so he can get rid of his old Dual 2667 box for power saving reasons.
I can get 4x32 2666 for €360 shipped so ideally below that or faster for the same money.

Thanks

I'd also be interested in that. 32GB UDIMM I saw much higher especially lately and I wouldn't pay that kind of Money. Maybe eBay has good Offers only available to Germany or something.

Its a one off option, not regular prices - that makes it even less likely somebody would match, but I am not going to spend 500 bucks on this, thats a lot of power he could use...

Edit - you make it sound as if I should stop looking and take that offer though;)

I cannot and I will not take the Decision for you, but already in 2022 or so those 32GB ECC UDIMMs were around 100 EUR/each, so if you could get them for 90 EUR/each, that seems something I would consider reasonable in these crazy Times.

About non-ECC UDIMMs I personally haven't followed up the market much, but I think I saw much lower Prices locally when I stumbled upon them.

I personally would NOT pay for it, but I don't really have a super pressing need: I had plenty of 16GB DDR4 UDIMMs ECC (bought a bunch when they were like 12 EUR / each or so) and thankfully quite a few 32GB/64GB DDR4 RDIMMs/LRDIMMs so if something doesn't fit on one Server it goes on another one and if it cannot be split, then it goes on one of the Big Fat EPYC 7642 Hyve Boys :p.

I think these 32GB ECC UDIMMs are currently more or less around 150-200 EUR/each in Today's crazy Market. Note that I am not commenting on speed PC4-2400 vs PC4-2666 vs PC4-2933 vs PC4-3200 because for my use Case, I don't care too much. I won't be paying double for 5% more performance out of my AM4 Ryzen CPU. That's my humble Opinion at least :p. If you need faster, you know your Priorities better ;).

I'm not following many Sellers regularly and maybe this one got too popular so it achieves crazy highs, but ... :)

True.
At this point i am not 100% whether I should spend 400 bucks on Udimms or maybe just get a 6254 at less than half
Its (somewhat) close to the 5950x (which is the possible 2 x 2667v4 replacement) but not as power efficient ...

What you pay in power consumption will probably be less than what you pay for RAM.

But then, why do you need 128GB for kids' PC?

32GB for 90 is somehow what I payed a few years ago for my 2x16 GB kit

He's going to run some services on it, planning to combine his Truenas and app-server into one.Not entirely sure *what* he's running to need 128 though. Never tells me anything unless he wants something. I am sure parents can relate;)

I understand. Being a parent myself :)

But that would be a good time for discussing it. There is a cost vs. benefit aspect. I over-provision my PCs with RAM and storage. But not these days.

Linux htop and other Memory Reporting can sometimes be confusing. Little RAM available. Yeah, Linux will happily use whatever you throw at it as Buffers / Cache  .

My main Issue on the Desktop to be honest is Librewolf / Firefox and potentially Brave Browser. Absolute Memory Hogs and either Garbage Collection doesn't work or they don't unload Tabs (that have been left alone say for > 1 Hour) automatically.

Apart from that I tend to agree, most Apps / Services tend to require relatively little Resources.

It depends how many of these Apps / Services he plans to run. If he has 100 Containers and each has 1GB RAM allocated/available to it ...

@Sable - Is that you?;) You got some cheap 32G for us;) Kidding - but you might know pricing - are those sales representative?
I'll happily take back the thousands of dims i sold during those times.

Yes bad deal. Just find non businesses willing to sell and offer fairly cause obviously if you are a company and you can ask ridiculous prices on ebay then they will.
