Windows Server 2016 Evaluation - Can you apply a key to it?

I setup a machine with Windows Server 2016 Standard using the TechNet ISO download.

It says "activated" and evaluation copy. There's a key entry form to change keys.

If I use a production key there, will it just convert to a normal license installation and not a 180 day eval?

I don't want to burn a set of keys if it'll just get lost in 180 days.

I have had to perform a reinstallation/upgrade in place to be able to use the datacenter keys on mine. Did not loose anything or any configs more just a pain in the ass. Run the install from inside of your current windows intall
