Win Server on a 50gb SSD. Good idea or bad idea ??

It will just be a simple file server and won't be running any heavy apps. Fresh install of Win Server R2 takes up about 23gb. Not sure about long term growth of the OS or the affects of future updates.

Yea, I do too but I happen to have a 50gb looking for a home.

If you'd said FreeNAS, Xpenology, Linux, Proxmox... I'd say sure. The ways of Windows can be storage hungry for unknown reasons (to me at least).

50GB == bad idea for 2012 R2. The default swap file alone (assuming you have a reasonable amount of RAM) would eat up most of the disk.

I usually tend to 100-160GB usable as a minimum, and prefer 160-180GB.
