I never really noticed till I took it out the rack and fired it up on the bench. I uses double barreled fans like other 1U chassis. I haven't check but I assume fan setting in the BIOS is economy or whatever the lowest setting is.

Supermicro Model 119-7

Part # 1026T-URF4+

MB X8DTU-LN4+

5 chassis fans running at 6400 rpm plus the PS fans.

This thing is whisper quiet. by far the quietest 1U system I've ever encountered. All temps are on the low side and all other readings are normal. I've been pondering this all afternoon.

Makes no sense if they are in fact FAN-0101L4's because I had just 3-4 of those running in a SC813M and that 1U chassis was FAR from quiet.

I agree.... makes no sense to me either. Rated @ 59dba
In my experience, any 40mm fan that spins > ~4000rpm is not quiet.
Quiet to me would be a rating of ~40dba or less.

I was hopeful.

Fans are 0101L4's.

I agree, the PSU fans make most of the noise. I don't understand why it is so quiet hence my question.

All fans are connected and spinning at 6400 rpm. The last is a distinct possibility. :)

LOL.. i was just kidding around.

Let's maybe put some numbers behind "so quiet".... do you have a sound meter or try an app on your phone, measured 12" in front of the unit?

I have some of the 116 chassis that use the same fans. They really are not that loud at the "optimal" BIOS setting, which is ~6000rpm. Those fans are built well, and they are housed in a plastic tray, completely isolating them from the chassis. I'm sure that helps too.

Wow... 40mm fam running ~6000rpm does not create a noise? Hehe. I never experience that one.
40mm should running 3000rpm and still create noise for me.

I think havinf that model 1u. It is still mucho noise.

I do have a sound meter and will use it tomorrow. Gotta move it out of the server room first. Too noisy in there. :p

No battery for my sound meter so I used my phone. In a quiet room it bounces between 39 and 42 Db one foot from the front. Pretty darn quiet for a 1U.

The reason I pulled it out the rack was I was going to retire it. On second thought I think I'll just repurpose it.
